After dedicating almost 30 years to the automotive industry, Ian, 56, from the Midlands, never imagined he would find himself in the position he was in after becoming the victim of a scam.
“I became the victim of a pension scam and I was devastated. I struggled to come to terms with what had happened and it affected every part of my life, including my mental health.
“It was then that I remembered Ben. They had supported me in the past and I knew they would understand. Contacting Ben felt like reconnecting with a support network that cared about me. From the start, I felt understood.
“My Case Manager took the time to listen to my circumstances and helped me understand what support was available, both through Ben and through local and statutory services. They also helped me look at my budget so I could better manage my living costs and make my finances more stable.
“Through our conversations, my Case Manager recognised that I had become socially isolated. I had lost confidence and was afraid of being around large groups of people. We talked about my goals and what might help me. One of my goals was to begin carpentry, not only to help me back into employment, but also as a creative outlet to improve my wellbeing. Thanks to Ben, I’ve started this.
“Ben’s support has meant so much to me. Without it, I don't think I would have been able to focus on developing my skills or think positively about the future. I now have something meaningful to work towards. I'm being creative, connecting with people and rebuilding my confidence.
“I still have a long way to go, but with Ben's support, I know it's possible. I'm grateful for where I am today and feel able to work towards the goals that matter to me. I've learned that recovery doesn't happen overnight, it's about taking one step at a time which is how I’m going to face future challenges.
“If you're thinking about contacting Ben, my advice is simple - get in touch. Their support has shown me that a future is possible, even when it doesn't feel that way.”
