December festivities and what to look forward to in 2025

A message from Registered Manager, Jennifer Mackie

December saw all our residents, staff and visitors enjoying a wide variety of festive engagements.

Light a life service: We commenced our festivities with our annual Light a Life Service, conducted by Norham’s very own minister, Reverend Rob Kelsey, baubles of loved ones past and present gently adorned the Christmas tree and after singing some beautiful Christmas Carols we all took time to reflect on our loved ones.  A very poignant and moving service.

Arts and crafts: From wreath arranging, card making to pottery Christmas trees there was something for everyone to enjoy.  The home was transformed a magical festive wonderland with twinkling lights, sparkling Christmas trees and cosy seasonal touches that brought warmth and joy to all parts of the home.

Shopping trips out: Our wellbeing host took our residents out Christmas shopping.   Strolling around the beautifully decorated local stores, enjoying the decorations and finding the perfect gifts for loved ones.

Singing and dancing: Spreading the festive cheer, entertainment came in the form of local choirs, inhouse carol concerts, the local school children came to entertain us with a selection of Christmas carols, our resident singer (Sing with Susan) performed for us.  The sound of Christmas carols rung around the home making lasting memories for both residents and staff.

The true spirit of Christmas was well and truly represented in every way and enjoyed by everyone.

As we enter into 2025, we have a variety of exciting events organised for the coming year.

January: Sees our traditional Scottish Burns Lunch, complete with a piper and traditional haggis, neeps, and tatties.  Maybe a wee dram of whisky on the side.

February: we love to celebrate Valentine’s day with a lunch surrounded by your loved ones.  Entertainment follows to dance the afternoon away.

March: We love to pamper our lovely mums and invite loved ones along to enjoy a freshly prepared lunch and spend some quality time celebrating.

April: Sees our traditional Easter Family lunch and our staff easter egg competition.  Who has the best creation?  Only the residents will decide.

May: We celebrate VE day with a special family lunch. Fingers crossed the weather is good as a VE day calls for a party in the garden.

June: We celebrate all of our amazing dads with a special family lunch.

July:  We hold our annual Summer Family Fun Day.  Lots of stalls, entertainment, games, delicious food and drinks.  A day not to be missed. (19th July)

August:  We celebrate Spanish cuisine during August.  Lovely paella, tapas and much more.

September: We enjoy some delicious Russian food during September. Pelemi (Dumplings), Bliny (Crepes), Shashlik (kebabs) and much more.

October:  October sees our Family Halloween Lunch and staff pumpkin competition.  Like Easter, who wins is up to the residents.  Everyone participates

November: We celebrate St Andrews Day with a family lunch and a freshly prepared Scottish lunch.

December:  We celebrate all things Christmas during December.
