Industry Leader Challenge 2018

Lookers Electric Charge

In 2018, Andy Bruce, then CEO of Lookers, joined Ben’s Industry Leader Challenge (ILC), taking over from Jeremy Hicks, MD of Jaguar Land Rover UK, who last year raised over £214,000 by swimming the Channel.

Andy got the whole of the Lookers Group involved in the challenge with the launch of the ‘Lookers Electric Charge’. This epic 2,000-mile, carbon-neutral challenge saw a relay of electric vehicles travel to destinations across the UK and Ireland, including all 155 of Looker’s franchised dealerships. Each dealership took part in a wide range of fundraising activities, from carbon neutral days and green energy workshops to test drive events and golf days helping to raise vital funds and awareness for Ben, as well as educate people about electric vehicles and carbon emissions.

The Lookers Electric Charge began on the 14th of May at Audi Dublin from which it travelled to the sprawling 30-acre Charles Hurst site in Belfast. It was then up to the team at Renault Newtownabbey to transfer one the EVs across the Irish Sea to Audi Ayr, where the relay travelled through Scotland and then England until it reached its final destination at Mercedes-Benz Eastbourne.

Lookers CEO Andy Bruce said: “We were very excited to launch the Lookers Electric Charge, central to which was our aim to travel to each site without emitting any CO2. The initiative enabled us to shine a light on a number of important topics and join timely conversations assessing the current state of the electric car industry, the actions we can all take to reduce our carbon footprint and, of course, the fantastic work that Ben is doing within the motor retail community.”
