Town Thorns £8million refurbishment project
Town Thorns Care Home Completes Phase 3 of £8m Refurbishment Project
Residents, visitors and staff at Town Thorns Care Home and Sheltered Housing are enjoying their wonderful new surroundings following the completion of the third stage of a huge £8m, two-year refurbishment and upgrade programme.
The refurbishment has transformed this highly regarded care home into a gorgeous, modern environment that is both practical and welcoming. The enhanced layout makes better use of space, making it easier to deliver superb care while providing a better quality of life for the whole Town Thorns family. 18 additional rooms have been created through this stage of the refurbishment, enabling more people to access residential care at Town Thorns, which is consistently rated Good by the Care Quality Commission.
A five-star feel
With sophisticated and comfortable lounge areas and beautifully furnished bedrooms with luxury, en-suite, fully tiled wet-rooms, the new Town Thorns looks and feels like a five-star hotel. Integrated within the luxury look and feel are clever design touches to assist with the delivery of high-quality person-centred care.
Visitors to the newly refurbished care home all agree that they would be very happy to live in such a well-appointed and comfortable home.
Luxury care suites
All residents now have a fully refurbished, comfortable and contemporary bedroom suite, which has been redecorated and completed with soft furnishings that create a welcoming and homely style. Each room has a beautifully finished ensuite wet room with a sliding door to make better use of space.
As well as being comfortable, these bedrooms are designed to be practical for the delivery of care and nursing with ample space and excellent wifi to improve connectivity and communication. Some bedrooms have hoist equipment to help with moving and handling requirements and all bedrooms have the capability for connecting hoists if required.
Town Thorns Care Centre Manager, Debbie Dale says the feedback from residents, staff and visitors has been incredibly positive: “Everyone who visits wants to move in straightaway,” she explains. “Every space is lovely, from the bedrooms with their fantastic ensuites to the lounges, dining rooms and gardens. We have a great sense of community at Town Thorns, there’s a real ‘family feel’ here, but before the refurbishment the environment was less than ideal. Now it’s a superb place for our residents to enjoy living in, it’s great for our staff to work in and it’s a lovely place for family and friends to visit, so this refurbishment really will make all the difference.”
Zara Ross, Chief Executive of Ben commented: “It’s a great feeling to know that after three years of hard work this incredible refurbishment is nearly complete. It delivers on every level, improving the living and working environment for residents, staff and visitors and enabling us to continually improve the quality of care we provide. It was a bold investment, made possible by the Ben board of trustees who gave the project the green light and the Town Thorns team who have worked tirelessly to make the refurbishment happen, all while maintaining standards of care during the disruption of the work, which was hot on the heels of Covid. My heartfelt thanks goes to all the teams who were involved. The results speak for themselves and I’m delighted at the outcome.”
