By Peter Cottle, Chair of the Fellowship of the Motor Industry
The Fellowship and Ben’s close relationship goes back over 90 years, and whilst our organisations have been established for different reasons, there are close synergies in supporting the automotive community. The Fellowship is a proud supporter of Ben, making regular donations to the charity, thanks to the generosity of our membership.
The Fellowship and Ben have recently agreed to strengthen the partnership by working more closely on a plan of awareness initiatives and campaigns within the automotive industry. These will highlight the work of both organisations and raise awareness of the support available to those who work, or have worked, in the automotive sector.
Whilst our membership includes many people still very actively involved in the industry, the majority are coming up for retirement or are semi/fully retired. We recognise that the wellbeing of people facing retirement is really important. Moving from an active industry role to retirement can have its challenges and, at times, impact health and wellbeing, possibly with a feeling of loss of purpose or boredom. Therefore, joining the Fellowship is a great way to remain active, have a sense of belonging, maintain contact with current industry colleagues and make new acquaintances. The Fellowship meets up regularly at a wide range of events and keep members up to date with regular communications. This complements the great work that our friends at Ben provide.
Ben provides health and wellbeing support for life for those who work, or have worked, in the automotive industry so those who are retired or semi-retired remain eligible. By working more closely with Ben, we will continue to explore ways of reaching new people and raising awareness about the important work of both organisations. Many of our members have witnessed, or even benefited from the invaluable support that Ben provides.
Together, we can continue to build a strong and supportive community for those who have dedicated their careers to the automotive industry. We look forward to welcoming you with open arms into this vibrant and ever-growing network. By joining, we can guarantee you much fun and fellowship, while knowing that you will also be supporting Ben.
