Andy, 50, from the West Midlands who has been in the industry for over 20 years, survived an attempted murder and needed support with finances and to heal, both mentally and physically.

“Last year, I survived an attempted murder. The physical and mental impact has stayed with me every day since, leaving scars that run deeper than anyone can see. I was desperate for help and some kind of direction in my life. Having worked in the automotive industry for over 20 years, I reached out to Ben, not realising then just how much their support would mean or how it would change my life.

“From the very first phone call, something shifted. For the first time in a long time, I felt heard. I felt a tiny spark of hope that maybe things could get better - hope that I didn’t have to keep fighting through the darkness on my own. When I called, I didn’t feel like I could go on another day, but Ben shone a light at the end of a very dark tunnel.

“My case manager took the time to truly understand my situation with compassion and patience. They connected me with local support networks and helped me make sense of things financially, emotionally and practically. I’d been homeless on and off, bounced from place to place, always uncertain, always looking over my shoulder.

“With Ben’s help, I was finally able to find a home where I was safe. Ben awarded me a grant to help me move into my new home and supported me with budgeting so I could keep it. We took everything one step at a time, at a pace I could manage. Slowly, my life began to feel more stable. Now, I’m safe from harm and able to move forward into the next chapter of my life, which is something that felt impossible not long ago.

“What Ben did for me means the world. I truly can’t give them enough praise. Their support was life saving, literally. I honestly don’t believe I would still be here today without them stepping in and helping me see that I had a future worth fighting for.

“Today, I’m doing OK, taking each day as it comes and finding my way forward. I’m surrounded by people I feel safe and comfortable with. I’m learning to manage my money better and taking care of my mental health. I feel hopeful and I’m working to improve my life even more.

“For the first time in a long time, my future feels real. I’m deeply grateful to still be here. I feel more confident, more positive and more like myself again. I know now that when challenges come, I don’t have to hide under the covers or face them alone. I can lean on the support of people who genuinely care. I can reach out to the connections that have my best interests at heart.

“To anyone thinking of contacting Ben, I would say: Do it. Absolutely do it. Their support is life-saving.”
